Why did you choose to work at Rutgers Residence Life?
“By working at Rutgers, you’re not just serving one classroom or one residence hall, you’re serving a network of possibilities of what our future can be. Every aspect of the university, including Residence Life, serves to support academic and professional success – but Residence Life focuses on supporting the campus community with a very specific framework. When students become residents, we uncover countless interests, passions, personal backgrounds, and life stories. As a result, we get to support mental and physical wellness, personal growth and excellence, diversity and inclusion, and the social and recreational side of work-life balance. The byline of the work I do each day is a profound, continuous, and focused dedication to student success. The first year area I serve is full of students who are just starting to figure out who they are and what impact they want to have. Sometimes, the difference I make is sharing reminders of self-care, boundaries, and time management, or just mentoring an undergraduate in their leadership role, connecting someone with our incredible campus partners, or assisting in community safety. Other times, it’s lending an ear and reminding a student that they matter and that they aren’t just a number. I get to ask them who they want to be and how they want to show up in the world, but also, just as importantly, how can I help? My hope is to make that difference for my RAs and their residents, one person at a time.”
